No attempt should ever be made to highlight carving by using chalk or
charcoal, or by brushing, scratching or any other means, nor should
any rubbing, casting or pressing be made. All of these activities can
damage the fragile carved surface and anything applied to the surface
can have a detrimental invasive action affecting the underlying
structure of the stone.
